Laura Marling, who has been previously featured on this site, is one of the artists at the forefront of England’s folk revival movement of the past several years. The young singer-songwriter is due out with her third album, A Creature I Don’t Know, slated to come out on September 12. “Sophia” is the first single off of the album, and while it starts out with Marling solo on the guitar, it really kicks in halfway through when a full band comes in. It’s a beautiful song, showcasing her acoustic work while also giving her a chance to shine as a frontwoman in her own right.
Sometimes I sit, sometimes I stare
Sometimes they look and I don’t care
Rarely I weep, sometimes I must
I’m wounded by dust
Laura Marling’s tour stops in Chicago on September 22nd. She’ll be appearing at Lincoln Hall along with Alessi’s Ark. Tickets are on sale now for $15.
