This Week in Great Music: 12/28 - 1/3
2009 is going out with a bang, because there are a whole lot of awesome shows on NYE. I won't be at any of them, but you all should still check something out.My plans of trying to hit an even 20 for concerts attended this year have repeatedly been thwarted by weather and exhaustion and pure laziness. Winter is kind of a dead zone for concerts for me, because it's like as soon as I get home and get warm and cozy, I just don't want to leave again. I'm thinking about trying to get to the Fiery Furnaces show at Schubas, though, if my visiting family is gone by then. Because if there's anything I can't deal with, it's odd numbers.I'll be at Metro for the Kid, You'll Move Mountains/Picture Books/Venna/Crayolala show on the 2nd. Â Maybe I'll see some of you there.Monday, December 28Rusted Root, House of Blues. 8 pm, $35.50-37.50Tuesday, December 29Tom Schraeder and His Ego, John Henry and the Engine, and Dick Prall, Schuubas. 9 pm, $10Wednesday, December 30Tributosaurus plays Tom Petty, Martyrs'. 7 and 10 pm, $25-35John Legend, The Venue (777 Casino Center Drive, Hammond IN). 8 pm, $55-125The Fiery Furnaces and Cryptacize, Schubas. 9 pm, $15Thursday, December 31Jill Sobule and Julia Sweeney, SPACE. 6 pm, $40-45Uncle Earl and the Infamous Stringdusters, Old Town School of Folk Music. 7 and 10:30 pm, $36-40Crystal Castles, Logan Square Auditorium. 8:30 pm, $30-50Girl Talk, Congress Theater. 9:30 pm, sold outJens Lekman, Empty Bottle. 9:30 pm, $30Bobby Bare Jr., Schubas. 9:30 pm, $20-25The Black Keys, Kurt Vile and the Violators, Riviera. 10 pm, sold outTributosaurus plays Tom Petty, Martyrs'. 10 pm, $25-35The Fiery Furnaces and Cryptacize, Lincoln Hall. 10 pm, $20-25Margot and the Nuclear So and So's, Subterranean. 10 pm, $30-40Friday, January 1The Black Keys, Kurt Vile and the Violators, Riviera. 8 pm, $27Jens Lekman, Empty Bottle. 10 pm, $30Saturday, January 2 Kid, You'll Move Mountains, Picture Books, Venna, and Crayolala, Metro. 9 pm, $9Jens Lekman, Empty Bottle. 10 pm, $30Sunday, January 3Nothing; enjoy your day off before you've got to go back to work.
