Zapruder Point, "Buildings vs People EP"

I first heard Zapruder Point's (Chicagoan Dan Phillips) music earlier this year, whenever he opened for Whitehorse (Canadian duo Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland).  I am generally a fan of the whole guy-with-guitar thing, and even more a fan of the local-guy-with-guitar thing, so I was pleased.  (I'm also a fan of interesting covers, so the fact that he closed his set with a Madonna cover made me very joyful.)

He returns with his latest release, a collection of short songs which is to be the first of four EPs he plans on putting out this year.  The songs have a somewhat lo-fi sound, with Phillips' voice and his guitar being the main focus over some light percussion and backing vocals.  The songs are short and to the point, so don't expect much fluff or filler here.  The real stand out track is "Lisa Pruett Will Have Her Revenge on Coventry", which could be his very own take on a murder ballad.  That track was one of my favorites that he performed when I saw him at Schubas, so I was happy to see it pop up on this album.  All of the tracks clock in at under three minutes, making Buildings vs People an easy album to take a chance on.

The EP is available now on Bandcamp, with a pay-what-you-want option for digital files, or $8 for the 7" vinyl.
